Why we built Granular: the terminal for everybody

In short

The terminal is the most powerful tool in computing — and almost nobody can use it. Granular changes that: chat in plain English, and AI agents do real work in real terminals.

The most powerful tool nobody can use

For fifty years the terminal has been where the real work happens — building, automating, shipping. It is also a wall. Cryptic commands, unforgiving syntax, zero forgiveness. If you never learned it, an entire layer of capability has been off-limits to you.

That always struck us as backwards. The people with the most ideas — founders, designers, marketers, operators — are often the ones locked out of the tool that could execute them.

AI changed the interface, not the power

Large language models did something quietly profound: they made plain English a viable way to drive a computer. But most AI tools stop at chat — they talk about the work instead of doing it.

Granular closes that gap. You chat; agents act. They write files, run commands, build pages, and publish them — inside real terminals you watch the whole time. The power of the terminal, with the interface of a conversation.

What we believe

  • You should own what you build. Real files, on your Mac, in your accounts — never locked in a closed tool.
  • The work should be visible. Agents act in front of you, not behind a curtain.
  • Anyone should be able to do this. If you can describe it, you can build it.

That is Granular: the terminal for everybody. Download it, or see what you can build.
