Manage your AI accounts
Settings → AI accounts shows every AI account Granular can use, how each connects, what it costs and whether it works. Check it, sign in again, set a project default, hide or remove it.

Settings → AI accounts lists every AI account Granular can use: your Claude and Codex sign-ins, coding agents such as Cursor or GitHub Copilot, API keys, OpenRouter, custom and local providers, and the AI Add-on. Each card shows how the account connects, what it costs and whether it works, with the buttons to manage it.
You add accounts from the account button under the message box (Add your AI agent); you manage them here.
Open AI accounts
Any of these:
- Open Settings and click AI accounts in the sidebar.
- Open the account button under the message box and click the settings icon on the Accounts title line (Manage accounts).
- In the account button's list, point at an account, click its ⋯, then Open in AI accounts. This jumps straight to that account's card.
What each card shows
Under Your AI accounts, each card has:
- The account's name and logo, and the account it's signed in as (emails are partly hidden).
- How it connects: Built-in SDK (Claude, which comes inside Granular), CLI on this computer (an app installed on your computer, such as Codex or Cursor), API key, Sign-in (OAuth) (OpenRouter), Local server (Ollama or LM Studio) or Granular AI Add-on.
- A status:
- Connected: a real check worked.
- Not checked yet: click Verify connection to check it.
- Couldn't check: the last check couldn't reach the provider, perhaps because you were offline.
- Needs sign-in: the sign-in has ended.
- Error: the last check failed. The card says what the provider said.
- Not installed: the app behind it isn't on this computer any more. Install it again from Add your AI agent.
- Signing in…: a sign-in is under way.
- Details, depending on the account: where its app is installed and its version, the address it uses, a masked key (only the last four characters), a Cost line with its price tag and a Pricing link, how many models it offers ("N available"), a Billing & plan link for the AI Add-on, and links to the provider's own pages.
- A Default for … badge if it's the default account for one or more projects.
What you can do with an account
The buttons along the bottom of each card depend on the kind of account:
| Button | What it does | Shown for |
|---|---|---|
| Set as default | Makes new chats in a project start on this account. Pick the project in the list that opens. Click Default to clear it. | Every account, when you have a project |
| Verify connection | Sends one tiny real request to check the account works ("It works." when it does). | Every account |
| Sign in again | Refreshes a sign-in that expired. | Claude and Codex sign-ins |
| Reconnect | Signs in to OpenRouter again for a fresh key, replacing the old one. | OpenRouter |
| Manage key ↗ | Opens OpenRouter's page for this key: usage, spending limit, delete. | OpenRouter |
| Edit | Changes a custom provider's address, models or key. | Custom providers |
| Hide from picker | Stops Granular showing or using this account. See Hidden accounts. | Logins that come from this computer |
| Remove or Sign out | Removes the account from Granular. You're asked to confirm, or click Keep it. | Accounts you added (not the AI Add-on) |
When you remove an account, Granular asks "Remove this account from Granular? Chats using it will need another account." For OpenRouter it asks "Sign out of OpenRouter? Its key is removed from this computer." instead.
Models aren't picked here. Choose a model in the chat, with the model button under the message box. See Pick and pin models.
Hidden accounts
Some accounts come from apps already signed in on your computer, such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or the GitHub Copilot CLI. Granular finds these by itself, so they can't be removed here: their card explains how to sign out of that app for good (for example by running codex logout in a terminal).
Instead, you can hide one. Click Hide from picker on its card. A hidden account:
- doesn't show in the account button's list and is never picked automatically,
- stays signed in on your computer, untouched,
- keeps working in a chat that was already using it.
Hidden accounts are listed under Hidden (N) below your accounts. Click it to open the list, then Show to bring one back. A hidden account also shows in Add your AI agent with the tag Hidden; click it there to show it again.
Add an account
At the bottom, Available to add lists accounts you haven't set up yet, such as Claude, Codex, OpenCode, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Gemini, OpenRouter and a custom provider. Click Add on one. OpenRouter signs in from here in your browser; the others open Add your AI agent under the message box, where the rest of the setup happens. See Connect an AI model.
What the price tags mean
Every account has a small price tag, here and in Add your AI agent. Point at one to read what it means:
| Tag | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Free | Free to start: the free plan works, with usage limits. Paid plans give you more. |
| Free + model | The app itself is free, but it has no AI of its own. You pay for the AI model you connect to it, like OpenRouter credits, an API key or a subscription. |
| Plan | Needs a paid plan or subscription. |
| Pay as you go | No subscription: you pay for what you use, billed by the provider. |
| Local | Runs on this computer: free, and your messages never leave your machine. |
The Cost line on each card says it in a sentence, with a link to the provider's pricing page.
Limits
- The AI Add-on can't be removed here. Manage it in Settings → Billing & plan.
- Logins from this computer can be hidden, not removed. Sign out in that app to remove them for good.
- Sign in again is only on Claude and Codex sign-ins. Coding agents such as Cursor, Grok and GitHub Copilot sign in through their own apps.
- A project default only affects new chats in that project. Chats you already have keep their account.
Troubleshooting
If a card says Not checked yet
Granular hasn't run a real request through it yet. Click Verify connection.
If a card says Couldn't check
The check couldn't reach the provider. Check you're online, then click Verify connection again.
If a card says Needs sign-in
For Claude or Codex, click Sign in again. For OpenRouter, click Reconnect.
If a card says Not installed
The app behind it was removed from this computer. Open Add your AI agent under the message box and install it again.
If an account is missing from the account button's list
It may be hidden. Open Hidden (N) in AI accounts and click Show.
