What is Granular?

Granular is a desktop app where you ask an AI agent for things in plain English, and it does the work on your computer. It writes files, runs commands and builds pages inside a real terminal that you can watch the whole time, and it shows you the result in a preview.

It runs on macOS, and on Windows as a beta.

A terminal is a text window where you type instructions to a computer. It's what developers use. In Granular, the agent types into it for you, so you never have to.

Who it's for

People who want what a developer can do without learning to code: founders, designers, marketers, product and project managers, and operators. You don't need to know how to use a terminal. If you do, you can use it too.

What's inside Granular

• Projects and sessions. A project is a folder on your computer. A session is one conversation with an agent, with its own terminal, working in that folder. See Sessions and projects.
• Real work you can watch. The agent creates and edits real files and runs real commands. Every command shows in the terminal as it runs. See The Granular window.
• Folders and access. Give a chat extra folders and set each one to Can edit or Read only. Settings → Privacy & access shows everything Granular can reach. See Privacy and access.
• Preview and sharing. Pages and apps the agent builds open in a preview panel beside the chat. From there you can publish a copy to a link, or share a live view for a few hours. See Published links.
• Digital brain. A folder of notes about your mission, goals and decisions that agents read before they work. See Digital brain.
• Library. Ready-made skills, starter kits, design packs, guided sessions and prompts you add to a project. See Resource library and skills.
• Boss and workers. One session can hand parts of a job to other sessions and merge their work. See Boss and worker agents.
• Branch sessions. A session can work on its own copy of the project and merge back when you're happy. See Branch sessions.
• Your AI, your choice. Use a Claude or ChatGPT plan you already pay for, an API key, another AI service, or Granular's own AI Add-on. See Connect an AI model.
• Vault. An encrypted place for API keys and passwords, so they never sit in a file or the chat. See Vault for API keys and secrets.
• Other apps. Connect tools such as Notion, Linear or GitHub so the agent can use them. See MCP connectors.
• Voice. Speak instead of typing. See Voice dictation and voice mode.

What runs where

When the agent works, what you type and what it reads (for example a file it opens) is sent to the AI model you connected. That's how it can answer. Your files themselves stay on your computer.

A Granular account is free and optional. You need one only for things like free starter AI credits, publishing and live links, and using a paid plan on more than one computer. See Account and sign-in.

What it costs

Granular is free to download and use with your own AI connection. There are two separate things you can pay for:

• The Pro plan lifts the Free plan's limits on projects, sessions, agents and links. It comes as Monthly, Annual or Lifetime.
• The AI Add-on (Granular Hosted) supplies AI models, if you don't want to use your own AI account. It comes in tiers, and new users can start with free credits.

Your own AI plan or API key is billed by that company, not by Granular. For what's included and prices, see Plans and pricing.

What Granular is not

• Not an AI model. Granular needs an AI connection to do anything. Without one, the agent can't work.
• Not a website host. Published links put a copy of one page or note on a Granular web address. Granular doesn't host full websites or connect your own domain. The agent can help you set up a hosting service yourself.
• Not a cloud workspace. Your projects live on your computer, not in Granular's servers. They don't sync between computers.
