Connector accounts

In short

Connect two accounts of the same app, like work and personal Gmail, and tell the AI agent which to use with @. How to name, limit and switch each one.

Updated 2026-10-20

You can connect more than one account of the same app, for example your work and personal Gmail. Each account is its own connector: its own card, name, on or off switch, permissions and projects. When you ask for something, you can type @ to pick the exact account, and each action in the chat shows which account it used.

This article is about apps connected from Discover apps. To connect your first account, see Connect an app.

Add another account

  1. Click the Settings button (the gear icon), then Connectors.
  2. Either:
    • in Discover apps, find the app (its card shows how many accounts are connected) and click + Add account, or
    • in Connected, click one of the app's accounts and, under Connection, click + Add another account.
  3. Under Account name, type a name for the new account, for example "Personal". The app's name stays in front and the box starts with Account 2 (or the next number).
  4. Click Connect.
  5. In your browser, sign in to the other account and approve access.

While you sign in, Granular says Sign in to the other Gmail account in your browser. "Personal" shows up here when you're done. When it finishes: Gmail · Personal is connected.

How accounts are named

Every account's name has two parts: the app, then the account. For example Gmail · you@example.com.

  • Your first account is named after who it's signed in as, when the app tells Granular, for example Gmail · you@example.com. Otherwise it's just the app's name, for example Gmail.
  • An account you add with + Add another account is named what you typed in the form, for example Gmail · Personal, or Gmail · Account 2 if you kept the suggestion.

You can rename any account at any time. Its settings panel always shows who it's signed in as under Signed in as (or "Your Gmail account" when the app doesn't say).

Rename an account

  1. Open the account's settings (click its card in Connected).
  2. Under Connection, next to Account name, click Rename.
  3. Type the account part of the name. The app's name stays fixed in front.
  4. Press Enter, or click elsewhere, to save. Press Escape to cancel.

Clear the box and save to go back to the automatic name. Names can be up to 60 characters.

The new name shows everywhere: on the card, in the chat's Connectors menu, in the @ list, on permission cards and on chat cards.

Choose which projects an account works in

  1. Open the account's settings.
  2. Click the button next to Available in: (it says All projects at first).
  3. Tick the projects this account should work in, or tick All projects for every project, including ones you add later.

How it behaves:

  • All projects is the default.
  • If you choose some projects, new projects you create later are not added. Tick them yourself.
  • Unticking one project while All projects is ticked keeps every other project.
  • With no project ticked, the account works nowhere.

The card shows where the account works: small project icons with the project names on hover, or no projects. See Sessions and projects for what projects are.

Switch an account on or off

In the account's settings, the On switch says "Make this account available to sessions". The account's card has the same switch.

  • Off: the account stays connected, with its name and permissions, but no chat can use it. Its card says Off.
  • On: every chat can use it again (within the projects it's available in).

The account's row in a chat's Connectors menu is the same switch. Turning it off in one chat turns it off in all of them.

A newly connected account starts On.

Pick an account with @

  1. In the message box, type @.
  2. A list of your switched-on connectors opens. Keep typing to narrow it, for example @gma.
  3. Use the arrow keys and press Enter or Tab, or click the one you want, for example Gmail · Work.

The name appears in your message as a chip. When you send, Granular tells the agent to use exactly that account for this request. Backspace removes a chip in one go.

Only accounts that are switched on are listed, and mentioning one doesn't switch it on. You can also type a name yourself in brackets, for example @[Gmail · Work].

When several accounts of one app are on

If two or more accounts of the same app are switched on, the agent has to say which one to use for every action. Granular tells the agent each account's name. If your request doesn't make it clear, the agent should ask you which account you mean. An action that doesn't name an account isn't run.

To avoid choosing each time, mention the account with @, or switch off the accounts you don't need.

See which account was used

Each app action in the chat shows as a card with the app, the action and the account, with a tick when it worked. Permission cards name the account too, for example Wants to: Send email (Gmail · Work). Steps where the agent is only looking up how to do something, such as Finding the right action…, don't name an account.

Switch off or disconnect

Limits

  • Each account is connected with its own sign-in.
  • Account names and Available in choices are kept on the computer where you set them. Connected accounts, their permissions and their on or off switches belong to your Granular account and follow you to other computers.

Troubleshooting

If the agent says "More than one Gmail account is on in this chat"
Tell the agent which account to use, mention it with @, or switch off the one you don't need.

If the agent says "That Gmail account isn't switched on for this chat"
The agent picked an account this chat can't use. Open that account's settings: turn On back on, or add this chat's project under Available in.

If the agent says an app "isn't available in this project"
Open the account's settings and add the project under Available in.

If you see "Still waiting for Gmail. If you finished signing in, it will show up next time you open Connectors."
Close Settings and open Connectors again. If the account isn't there, add it again.

If an account shows no email in its name
Not every app tells Granular who you're signed in as, and accounts you add keep the name you gave them. Click Rename to name it yourself.

Questions

Can I connect two Gmail accounts?
Yes. Connect the first, then click + Add account on Gmail's card in Discover apps (or + Add another account in its details) and sign in to the second. Each account gets its own name, switch and permissions.
Can I use two accounts of the same app in one chat?
Yes. Leave both switched on and say, or @-mention, which one to use.
Can I switch an account on in just one chat?
No. An account is either on for every chat or off for every chat. Use Available in to limit it to some projects.
Do my account names follow me to another computer?
No. Names and project choices stay on the computer where you set them. The accounts themselves, their permissions and their on or off switches follow your Granular account.
Does each account have its own permissions?
Yes. See App permissions.
Does renaming an account change anything in the app itself?
No. The name is only shown in Granular.
